Why do customer service jobs (like working in a call center) required you to know Microsoft Word and Excel?

Microsoft word and excel is basic in Computers.You need Microsoft Word is where you write letters and Excel where you work with numbers and in order to do customer service jobs you will have to talk on the phone as well as deal with those softwares sometime or another. I will suggest you to learn Microsoft excel and word anyways as it will be useful in future. Microsoft word and excel also shows if you are good in these softwares then you will be able to easily adapt to the system company has.
I worked in call centre....wouldn't recommend.

because they would require you to use them to type letters and make/ fill in spreadsheets for a wide variety of reasons.
