Can linux or Unix leads me to a job?

I am 51 years old with little PC experience. I was wondering if learning linux will lead to a job or not? Or maybe i should start with a microsoft certification?

Without a working environment Linux and Unix are tougher to master on your own. So I would suggest Microsoft certification. Their program is more structures. no, having certifications and a degree in college help, but it will still be hard to get a job as a tech because of flood of techs in the field and lower pay rates. I have worked in the same field for over ten years, and even with my training, they want years of experience too.

Linux and Unix are not marketable unless you are going into I.T. support, programming and networking. It is not as marketable as knowing Windows and OS X. MS certification would be a better avenue, but what career path are you trying to aim towards? Even MSCE could be a seen as a waste of time and money, if you are trying to be something unrelated like a programmer or web designer. Someone with little PC experience seems to me that you are trying to skip steps. You should start on more basic topics, then work your way up to advanced topics. For example, if you are working towards MCSE, I would start with A+ and Network+ certification. See if you like it. There are even career paths with just these certifications. MCSE is like network and systems administrators.
