Career Questions and Answers
Want to go to college something in medical field, want a year program what careers make the most?
Asked by chrissybe26
I'm not greedy just want a better job than the one I currently have, and just don't feel fulfilled in what I'm doing now. I've always been interested in the medical field want more of a hands-on job than behind the scene. I am currently a asst. manager and want something less stressful and not the one in charge. I'm a people person and by nature love to help other people, any suggestions?

Most one-year programs lead to low paying positions, relatively speaking. Here is a range of programs to think about:
CNA -- typically 10 weeks, low paying and hard work
EMT -- 6 months to 1 year, starting is relatively low pay. Stress can be low to very high.
Medical Assistant -- Most that I have seen are 2 years. I wouldn't call them good pay, but might compare to your present asst. manager position. But then, so would the EMT position.
LPN nurse -- About 1 1/2 to 2 years. Probably slightly higher pay than MA. The work will be more stressful.
Radiology Tech -- About 2 to 3 years. Decent pay, moderate stress job (probably less stressful than the nurse)
RN nurse -- From 3 to 4 or more years. Good pay, same stress level as the LPN.

There are tons of jobs in the medical industry. I wasn't sure if you meant a 1-year program? If you already have a BS or a bachelors, in 1 year you can earn a certificate in medical technology, cytotechnology, etc. You won't be working with people, but it's a decent job for only doing 1 year of school.
You could get an associates in ultrasound or radiology. That's only 2 years of school, you get to work with people, and the pay is pretty good (50k+).
If you're willing to get a masters, you could be a nurse or physicians assistant. There is also physical therapy. All of those careers pay well and involve people.

Medical Assistant sounds like something you might be interested in. They make good money. You can choose a specialty to work in that fits your personality ie. pediatrics, dermatology, family practice, surgery... This is a one year program that gives you responsibility but can be low stress (depending on your field).

I am a LPN (licensed practical nurse). The training for LPN takes a year and the pay can be very good depending upon where you work. The job can be stressful or not, again depending upon where you work. I thoroughly love my job at an assisted living facility. Based on what you posted, I think you should look into a LPN program. Good luck!

Try medical assistant or phlebotomy. If you have a college degree you can do an accelerated RN program, which is a year. There are a few colleges in my area that offer this program, not sure how many schools nationwide offer it. Nursing is rewarding and pays well but can be stressful.
