Is working as a Purchasing Specialist a good entry level job for an Economics major?
Asked by David C
I wouldn't be asking this question, but I am so hesitant because it is for a field that does not deal with what I want to do (business/finance). If i get this job, I'd be working for a electric plumbing supply company working as a purchasing specialist where I have to forecast how many goods we need to purchase based on past sales and such. Also I would have to make sure the company is getting the best, most competitive deal out there from their purchases. I might be overanalyzing this. Can someone please help? Thanks.

. This sounds like a GREAT opportunity! I'm a grad in Bus Admin, and your job sounds like a good combo of business, finance, and econ. You have to get the best price [present & future] on a changing quanity of goods. It's great. It'lll be a dirty, hands-on job dealing with some rough guys in the construction trades, but it's a good way to learn about different trades and how to handle people. Once you learn some of this, the boss will give you more responsibilities. But I'll say it again; If you're afraid to get your sissy, white, soft hands dirtry, don't take this job! .
