How or what is the best way to get a security clearance to allow me to work for Government or Federal Agency?
Asked by yazman
Hello, I hope someone can help me answer or understand how to get a security clearance to work for a government or federal agency. I currently work for Lockheed Martin but I dont have any security clearance that allows me to get higher or more challenging positions. I hope someone can give us some advise. Thanks

You don't need to join the military to obtain a security clearance. I provided a link below that outlines the details of what a security clearance procedure entails and information on how to contact your local FBI office in order to apply for one. There may be a fee along with it, I'm not sure. I have a Secret clearance in the U.S. Army and of course they paid for me as most employers do. Key things (that I was told) keep your credit clean. If you have bad credit, make sure all your delinquent accounts are paid and you don't have more than two 30-day late payments. Credit history is the biggest security clearance obstacle for most people. Good luck.

Seems like your employer could explain the process to you.

You need to apply for a position that requires a clearance; or enlist in the armed forces.

I would think that if accepted for a job that requires a higher security clearance you would get the clearance and the job. Your employer would do this for you. They don't just upgrade security clearances for no reason they would have a bunch of people with access to sensitive materials with no reason too,not very secure is it?
