I don't do the underwater diving welding, but I can give you advice on how to choose a career. With the help from my Careers for Dummies book. Heres one tip on looking for a career. Be advised on the listing for jobs. Around here I don't see a lot of help wanted job ads for underwater welding. Hope that helped you out, and all yeah the U.S Navy teaches those kind of things. But you'll be stuck there for 4 years.

I told my dad I wanted to do that for my career when I was in Middle School and he replied "What the hell are you going to do with that?"
He crashed my dreams, I was thinking "Cool job, lots of money, stay in shape" Don't let others crash your dreams, now I can't find any.

I was just like you when I was in 12th grade. I wanted to do underwater welding. I talked to lots of welders, some underwater some not. Its like this. The schools from what I hear are fun. More fun then high school. They take about 6 months and then your done. Depending on were you go, the weather and water is going to be nice and warm. But, it does cost allot of money. You have to have your own gear too. I am a certified diver. I love it, but being a commercial diver is total different. Your talking down so far you cant see anything. And once your down there, your down there. I was told that until the job is done, or something bad happens or is about to happen, you stay down. So if you need to go number 2, you go number 2 down there, in your suite. The pay is good. Very good. You norm are gone for 6 months at a time, depending on your job, and then are home for about a month. So it is not a job to take if you want to be at home with a g/f or anything like that. You can only do the diving for about 15 years. After that your body is to weak from being down under water for so long and so deep. We are not made to be doing this. Once you are done diving you norm become one of the guys that help the divers when they are down. One more thing that I was told. And it is a big one. Once you become a commercial diver. Even if only for a year. You will lose and never be able to get any form of health insurance for the rest of your life. It is just that dangerous of a job. Its up to you if you want to do it. You get to see the world, and parts of the world no one else will ever see. Hope that helped.
