What is the best way to look for work in another city?
Asked by operaphantom2003
I am very open to relocating to any smaller community (50,000 or less). What is the best way to look for work in another state when not much information is online for smaller communities? I have 12 years of retail experience but have not worked for the past 4 years. Some of my education includes:
Associate of Science Degree
Accounting Clerk Certificate of Completion
Business Administrative Support I Certificate of Completion
Business Administrative Support II Certificate of Completion
Customer Service Certificate of Completion
Front Office Support Certificate of Completion
Media Design Technology Certificate of Completion
Medical Office Administration Certificate of Completion
CCNA Certification
A+ Certification
Net+ Certification
MCSA and MCSE Certifications
Microsoft Office Specialist
Essentially, I am to any job where I am qualified and am able to buy a home in a few years.

Any major public library has phone books from many small communities in many states. Reference works also list names & addresses of newspapers in those communities, and what the population size is.
Send a letter to each of those newspapers. Enclose small amount of money (e.g. $ 10.00). Ask to receive at least a week's worth of that newspaper, until the money runs out. You want to learn about some communities, you don't need to volunteer your complete interest.
Now you see what kinds of job openings are being advertised in that community for what kind of pay, and whether you want to extend a subscription & what it costs.
A:
Contact temporary agencies like Apple One and look at newspaper listings online for the communities that interest you.
You will find lots and lots of jobs.

I would start with their local newspaper or monster.com
Or use the yellow pages to find the type of business you are looking for and call them directly!!

Check the EMPLOYMENT SECURITY office of the city you're considering. A good way to get a feel for the city is to find out the name of their local newspaper, you can do a search on line and find out what it is. I always find the CHAMBER OF COMMERCE in any city is a fantastic way to get more information on the town and it should also list most of the businesses in that town as well.
Good Luck!
