Is it hard to find a job in Germany as an Oracle DBA ? (i've seen they use SAP a lot...)?
Asked by Ancuta B
Hello,
I currently work as an Oracle DBA and have 2 years experience. I have to move to Germany and I was looking on some job ads... I noticed that there is a great demand in IT for people who know SAP. As I know almost nothing about SAP, I was wondering how hard is it to find a job as an Oracle DBA in Germany? (assuming I eventually learn the language too :) )
Thank you very much for your answers, opinions and advice!

Although a great portion of German can communicate in English, it does limit your options if you can't speak German. My suggestion is that you focus your job search with large international firms, for example the top tier consulting firms like Booze-Allen Hamilton, McKinsey, Mercer, PwC etc. These firms are more internationally oriented and diverse.
Best wishes.

Germand language could be a big problem for you.
often companies have more than 1 dba. 1 that knows oracle
and 1 that knows the SAP application and Oracle database.
At the end of the day SAP is just an application that has to
use a database.

Most SAP installations run on Oracle as the back-end, so that probably won't be the issue. The language will be.
good luck.
