Resume for Older worker with no college?
Asked by Jim M
I am helping a friend of mine put together a resume. He is 40 y/o; never attended college. He did serve in the military (navy), but was discharged "other than honorable" when he was in his early 20s. Most of his work history is factory work, through temp services, except for two recent jobs. He worked for "Company A" for over 5 yrs, but got in an argument with his manager's peer (another shift manager), and was fired in Nov 2006. He then worked for a temp service from Nov 2006 to Jan 2007, and was taken off assignment. He then got hired by Delphi Inc from March 2007 to June 2007, as a temp worker (direct employee). He doesn't remember his previous employers as they were various temp agencies. He was possibly going to the Social Security Agency to have them pull up a 15 year work history of him, but it would take 3 months to get, and he needs a job soon (now). How can he fill up a resume? Is there another way to get your own work history, besides memory or old paystubs?

Best Answer:
He could just list the temp agencies as his employers, or simply devote some space on the resume to Temporary Positions and list the kinds of work he did while temping. Easy fix, and it looks fine on a resume.
