I was wondering what career moves to make in order to get a job driving one of those huge mining dump trucks?

This is the sort of truck I'm talking about: http://prometheus.med.utah.edu/~bwjones/C1276349108/E266581637/Media/Caterpillar%20mining%20truck.jpg

Try contacting the Caterpillar truck driving training center. http://www.cat.com/cda/layout?m=38000&x=7 This is where lots of drivers at the mines get some training. Besides hands on training, Caterpillar has a "virtual trainer" designed to orient entry-level operators on basic hull truck operation from basic control familiarization to complex tasks. The software comes with a special joystick and all you need to provide is a chair for the base, computer and large TV screen. Caterpillar offers self-study or instructor-led programs. Here is a link to a video on the technology. http://www.cat.com/cda/files/433865/7

Get an entry-level job at a mine and work up to it. I would probably set my career sites a bit higher than driving a dump truck though!!
