How is it working at sears?
Asked by Lhan R
I just got hire at sears, I'm a cashier, and I just finish my training. I just can't believe that the training was not even hands on, it was just computer training with pictures. And now they put me on the spot and already want to start me as a cashier. And I'm only going to work for 3 days with 4 hours each day. So how is it working at sears? any former employee?
Also I got an interview at Target. And also I got an offer for a full time job at a wherehouse. with a starting pay of $8.50.
So do you think I should quit my job at sears?

I've worked for both...what it boils down to is that retail is retail, you have limited growth, low starting wages, most retailers want to work you at part time or less so they don't have to give benefits. Warehouse work typically starts out at higher wages and depending on the one you work for you have better opportunity's for growth, and you will most likely be able to work full-time, however it is physically demanding. It sounds like you already have a sour taste for Sears and you just finished orientation...should tell you something.

I know some folk that work for Sears, most are career workers. Target I only see workers for short periods of time. You should get all the information from the other jobs. Most employers wont mid if you ask for information so you could make a better decision.

I work for Sears right now but work for Home Services Department so I don't work at the store. I like working for them but then I don't. One reason is that if you start small you can build up to a higher position if you show your a good employee. On the other hand increases are not so high. But I do have a good manager and good co-workers with me and I remember when I first started I was lost but you get the hang of it. I been with them for 5 years.

Target is a better company with long term staying power versus sears who is struggling to stay in business. The attitude seems also to be better at target since the target customers are younger and a wider base.
I worked at sears and quit for better jobs elsewhere. I would always keep my eyes open for new opportunities in higher wages or better work experience. (so maybe quit if it wont cost you any pay)
