MusicMan
Why the shortage of oil & gas professionals?
Asked by MusicMan
Why is it so hard for exploration and production companies to find qualified employees in such a booming market?

A:
Best Answer:
Alberta is drawing so many of them in.

A:
The prior boom in the 80's forced some to make a total career change not to mention they are on the higher end of the age bracket now 50+. Much of the work is technical, engineering, geology, etc. The only schools in the country with oil & gas courses are in TX, OK & school of mines. Possibly WY. There is a boom in the rockies currently so some companies have become smart & started recruiting at colleges. There will be even a greater shortage in 5-10 years.
