Should you use your sick leave to take a mental health day?
Asked by MOM W
I have not called in sick for 16 years. I see people using their sick leave all the time, but I just don't have the guts to try it. Should I take a day off just to chill?

Absolutely!! You deserve it. Take a day to regain your thoughts and just do something that is fun for YOU. Taking a mental health day is never a bad thing... In fact, it's been recomended by a number of sources. Just be HONEST with your boss and tell them that you need a mental health day. It's an exceptable excuse these days and most employers appreciate the fact that you're being honest. If you're a good employee, they will not mind if you do this every so often. Have a little fun and just relax. :o)

This depends upon your moral code and what is important to you. It is a small choice but clearly a wrong choice. It is like choosing between a candy bar and a piece of fruit. Clearly the fruit is a better choice, but it is a choice that people make incorrectly every day.

Unless you need a doctors certificate, then why not? Sick leave is a part of your benefits for working for your boss. Why not take it I say?

If you are truly stressed and need some time to refresh, I say absolutely. Keeping a level head about yourself is so important. Our lives are so busy and sometimes we just need to chill-out and take time for ourselves.
