How do I tell my boss I want to work part-time because full time is interfering with my "second job?"
Asked by Ugogirl
A former stay at home Mom, I now work 9-5 at a small internet company and have been for the past year. My son is of age so coming home to an empty house is not an issue. And my two daughters will be attending an after school program. Like ALL working parents, I am finding myself "slacking" in my "second" job....family, household chores etc, So for all you working parents out there, how should I tell my boss that I need to work part time because overall it is best for my family?

You really don't owe your boss that explanation. Family is the only thing that comes after GOD. If that is what you want, then tell him the truth, he will respect you more. Just be prepared, if he is not an understanding person then he might let you go. Then, it's probably not worth working for him anyhow. Good Luck! Jennifer

Just be up front and ask if you can take it down to a part time position. Maybe they'd be willing to let you do some of the work from home...or work out a job sharing arrangement with a second person who can take over some of your tasks. The worst thing they can do is say no. It won't hurt to ask. If they do say no, you might want to consider finding a part time job to replace the full time one.

I hate to tell you this but most people\companies don't care. Direct sales is the only way you can have the flexibility you need and earn and income as well as self fulfillment. I chose mine for that reason they believe in God first then Family then career.
