How does a social worker prepare for a career as a retail buyer?
Asked by Alisa
I am interested in a career as a retail (clothing) buyer. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in social work. I am currently working as a psychotherapist and am investigating a career change. What would I need to do to prepare myself to become a buyer?

Your degrees won't help you specifically. You don't indicate if you have been managing your own business. If so this will be an important part of being a buyer. The biggest thing is management and retail experience. The more related to what area you want to buy for and in the better (e.g. a buyer for a major clothing would be different than a buyer for walmart). You probably would want to look at going back for an MBA. DA
