Bill
Is HVAC a good career to enter?
Asked by Bill
I'm 49/m and need to change careers. The local community college has an HVAC tech certificate program. I need a career that pays decently, is in demand, and isn't subject to excessive age discrimination. Do you think HVAC is a good choice? Thank-you.

yes, it is a good career, however your age and mine are really bad situations. Regardless of what people and employers say, AGE, our age is taboo.

HVAC is a good career to enter for a person who has no background roadblocks. Those who do will find some barriers to entry. In the state of Georgia, HVAC is listed on the states list of occupations with the most job growth. Across the United States, HVAC Techs get paid anywhere from $30,000 to $50,000/year. Demand for this position expected to boost at least 17% over the next 5 years across the country. There is also some opportunities for advancement in the form of higher wages, supervisor positions or service manager positions. This career also lends itself well to entreprenuership. Age discrimination should not be a factor here since many people associate age with experience and tend to trust the more seasoned technician.
