assistant manager calls me Babe at work its shocking to me in a professional setting?
Asked by Juleette
This new assistant manager who came in keeps calling me a 'babe' or says things along the line of 'excuses me babe'. Etc. I reported this to his supervisor and the big boss I left an email I’m worried over what tomorrow will bring in the office. I haven’t ever had an issue like this, odd thing is he’s twice my age and just married an computer software expert in our company and he calls me babe and other things. I don’t know what to expect in the morning at work.

You say you reported this his superiors but have you done the first step which is tell him directly what your name is and that you prefer to be called that. That it is appropriate or welcome to be spoken to in the manner he has been doing. Some guys will call a female Babe when they can't remember names. Be careful not to beat it up bigger than it really is. Imagining stuff that may happen is not reality.

Who ever is doing that is opening themselves up for a MAJOR SEX DISCRIMINATION SUIT.
Be sure that your supervisor and his/her supervisor has this IN WRITING.
Dont put up with this, it will continue to get worse. And, dont be afraid of the consequences, its against the law. Who ever is doing this should only call you by your name.
PERIOD !!!!!!!!!!!

Put that in check immediately.
The longer you go without saying anything, the more difficult it will be, and the more animosity will build up between the two of you.
Tell him quickly and bluntly that you don't like people to call you babe, and that you'd like him to address you by your name. It should take less than one minute, then the two of you can move on.
Don't allow him to continue any conversation about it. Just finish the statement, let him say he's sorry, and find a reason to get away from him for a while. (go to the bathroom, go to lunch)..

Hopefully he/she only does it in the office.
Either the assistant manager is being flirtacious, or
doesn't know how else to talk to women. Don't jump to
any conclusions, yet, though.

I think he might be trying to be friendly. As long as it doesn't go further, like excessive touching, etc you should be ok. If it makes you uncomfortable, you did the right thing. If it keeps occuring, tell him how you feel.

The big boss is probably just going to tell assistant to watch his words. Some men mean "to be nice" but take it too far. I had a boss who was like that but did not come onto me. When the issue was addressed he stopped calling me "my little sweetheart." We still got along quite well.
