Does anyone know where I can take a medical terminology class?
Asked by Flyingprincez
Hello,
Can someone tell me where I can take a medical terminology class in the Northern Virginia area? Every hospital job I look at it requires you to have a medical terminology class. I am currently a bio and still in school. I don't have much experience yet. I need to get my foot in the door. The two jobs that I am looking at is: unit secretary and admin/clerical. Please someone point me in the right direction. Ten points for the best answer. Thanks :)

There are many online courses you can take as per example below, but know that they are not free. Online means you can do it at your time and home and it doesn't matter where you live. Most colleges do not provide such classes, so you would have to go on your own.
You can also do your own search, just input "medical terminology classes". FYI: most major hospitals are farming out their transcriptions to overseas companies, but the smaller ones probably still do their own. Aim for Unit Secretary as it will teach you: to set up x-ray/MRI/CT scan/blood work type appointments as well as working with actual patients in a clinic setting as well as referring pts to other services within the hospital. Best thing is to get your foot in the door and see what's available at that point.
