just wondering
Would I still be able to become a probation officer?

I want to become a probation/parole officer. But I have a criminal background that includes possesion of marijuana, paraphenalia, retail fraud, and driving tickets, NO FELONIES!

No probably not. They are sometimes forgiving about minor things but I dont think when it comes to all that you will be able to get by with it. Maybe one minor little thing they would say ok but when they do the background it will be an automatic no.

I don't know what their "rules" for employment are. But, I do feel there is a certain value in being able to relate to your client. If you have indeed turned your life around, and sincerely want to help others to do the same, I think that would be a big plus in your favor.

BUT, it wouldn't hurt to ask and find out for sure. If you are truthful about your past; maybe they will give you a chance if they feel your character is basically good. A lot of people make mistakes and are given a chance redeem themselves.
