can a person convicted of a sex offense be employed as a paralegal in NJ?
Asked by mgelfand02
I was a paralegal before my conviction as a sex offender, and I am interested in returning to the paralegal field. How will my conviction affect my ability to work as a paralegal?

I hate to say it, but I don't think any attorney will hire you as his/her paralegal. In Massachusetts once you become known as a sex offender you'll be classified as a Level One (which means you probably won't re-offend); or a Level Two (there's a good chance you may re-offend); or a Level Three (more likely then not you'll re-offend).
Level 2 and 3 offenders are made known to the community at large. For instance in my town, Level 2 and 3 sex offenders have their pictures and offense type listed in most public buildings (even in a little mini-mart).
You're also required by law to report to the police and tell them where you live and work. Therefore, I think the last thing a reputable law office wants is its' name on a sex offender related flyer.
IMHO, I think you should focus on a different career because it's very unlikely that you'll ever find another job as a paralegal. Sorry to say.
I am a paralegal

Usually criminals are not allowed to be lawyers, or do a lot of jobs in the legal system. So, as a convicted pervert, you might not be able to do that.
