CAPTAIN GENIUS !!
What type of career should I look into?
Asked by CAPTAIN GENIUS !!
I'm good with my hands I have a very good under standing of how mechanical mechanisms work by looking at them and taking them apart. I'm good with computers. I can also weld with a mig welder and I have experience with engines and some body work but I'm not very good at math I had to drop out of collage because I could not pass calculus. But heir is the thing that gets me after what I described I should like to fix cars but I had a job as a mechanic and I hatted it the pay was good but the job was just not for me. Maybe if I could try a job in customizing cars or some thing but I still don't know what type of field. Can you come up with something it doesn't have to be with cars it can be with lots of different things. Right know I have a crapy job at ACE hard ware and I hate it. They promoted me to paint manager two months ago but I didn't get any raize so that alone just pissed me off. I need a better job I would like to be able to live on my own some time this decade. I'm 21 years old and would like to be making $900--$1,200 a week. for starters.

Have you ever thought about being a CNC Machinist? Machinists make parts through programming a computer to make parts .You do have to be good in Geometry but the pay starts out pretty well. Good luck!

A:
as you know, that payrange will not happen overnight, you may consider automated machining repair, it sounds down your alley, and if you stick with it for 5 or 6 years your payrange will be far better than what you currently are thinking.

If you want to make 50k+ a year one day, your best bet would be to 1) either head back to college and graduate 2) be damn good in sales 3) be an exceptional artist or athelete 4) start a successful business.

I'm training to become a pilot and think you should look into it. I'm not good at math either- terribly afraid of it to be honest- and have found that it's not a problem. Flying is a joy! With your talents and interests, you could not only easily grasp how a plane works, you could save money by doing some of your own mechanic work. You might even make extra dough by doing mechanic work for fellow pilots. There are many jobs a pilot can have; teaching, toting the rich around, surveying, crop dusting and more. Fewer people are entering the field than those who are leaving it. This means that we'll have a shortage of pilots, making the field wide open for those entering. If you choose this, you'll stand to earn a six figure salary with many perks. There are flight schools that also offer college credit. What I feel great about is that the field is set up so that safety comes first. The rules we follow don't feel stifling, but reassuring. It would be difficult to get a job that you're unqualified for. Luckily, it's easy to become more qualified. Check out Federal Aviation Administration at www.faa.gov Otherwise research the career online and maybe you'll find something appealing. Good luck.

Rob, Your strong mechanical aptitude and differing skill sets put you in a good position to go into the trades. I would encourage you to look into HVAC. HVAC technicians need a good bit on knowledge in many areas in order to put it all together; good mechanical understandings, electricity, plumbing, refrigeration, diagnostics, brazing, etc. You may have to start as an installer but make it your goal to become a service technician. If you can sign up for the HVAC course at your community college you may work during the day and attend classes 2 evenings a week. This speaks well to employers. You may only see $30,000 the first couple years but an tech with 5 years experience and a mature personality can easily make $55,000 a year unless you live in back-country! Good luck in your career Craig
