Nurse practitioner program For RNs with baccalaureate in another field?
Asked by dorota_maderak
Hi,
does anyone know easy entry for nurses holding baccalaureate degree in another field into NURSE Practitioner MSN program?
I checked into several schools already, and I am trying to bypass the BSN,. because I have a BA and will also acquire my RN license by next summer.

Here is a list of all the direct RN-MSN programs in the country. It will save you some time (at least a year), but I don't think you will get special treatment because you already have a degree, except being able to transfer some credits. Its the pits but I know how you feel, because I have a BA I'm not using either.
You would have to search through to see which offer a Nurse Practitioner program because I'm not sure where you live, or where you are willing to move to. However, I caution you. A nurse practitioner is not an entry-level profession. Potential employers want to see years of experience as a bedside RN, in an area where you can gain real skills like medical surgical, before they would consider hiring you as a nurse practitioner. You may find yourself certified as NP, but working as an RN.
