The median salary for a Machinist in Canada with less than 1 year of experience is C$16.81/hour. And the median salary for a Machinist in Montreal is C$15.58/hour. Of course, many people will earn more or less than these figures depending on various factors, including employer type. To find more accurate salary data for your specific Machinist position, you can take a free salary survey at PayScale.com. http://www.payscale.com/?src=yahooA

Manufacturing has been shedding jobs for decades, and continues to do so. What manufacturing there is mostly gets done in Asia now. I live near Washington, DC. I understand there are a couple of factories in town, but I've never seen one. Most of our cars come from Japan these days. 95% of our bicycles are manufactured in China. Most of our clothing comes from China, elsewhere in Asia, or Central America.
My Uncle had a machine shop in Massachusetts. He was a self-made man. He started poor and ended up with two buildings full of machinery. He was a rich man in a small town for years. They made everything, including machines to make metal watch bands, garbage cans, plastic Vaseline jars, etc. His business died a long time before he did.
