Asked by jukeandjive
Obviously referring to a sales position. Is it just that inside is behind a desk and outside meens your on the road? There must be more to it. Which is better? Help a brother out!

Inside sales are the kind of sales you make while at the place of business. For instance, a telemarketer does inside sales. They have to solicit customers from that place of business by calling them and trying to get some business. Outside sales are the kind where you have to either walk or drive from business to business and get some customers to buy (into) what you are selling. Four years ago, i was involved in "outside sales." I had to walk up and down the street from one business to the next and get customers to buy into a service that would help displaced and misplaced children. One year later, it was "inside sales." I sat at a phone and tried to get customers to sign up or renew a 1-800 FLOWERS membership. Those were the worst! Both were commission based, meaning you have to obviously sweat and hustle for it! If you sell it, you get paid. If you don't sell, you get nada! NOTHING!
Take my advice: IT AIN'T WORTH IT! DON'T GO INTO SALES! IT'S A WASTE OF TIME! NOBODY MAKES MONEY FROM THAT!!!

It depends on products and services that you are selling, for example, phone services, that will be inside sales. And outside sales will be pushing a product like newspaper, yellow page ads. Usually, the outside sales is more hard work, but you get to know ppl, and you can learn from first hand experience. Believe or not, it is still better to talk about business face to face.

inside sales could also mean working with a partner who does the outside sales... the Outside person clinches the deals while the insider person does call backs, and helps build the relationships. It varies.
