dollbabyii
which do you think is the easiest? medical transcription or medical billing and coding?
Asked by dollbabyii
i was thinking of becoming a medical transcriptionist but, medical coding takes fewer clock hours. I'm just wandering if being a medical biller and coder is less stressful as far as all the imformation you need to learn.

Best Answer:
Transcription is writing down what you hear through dictation from the physician. Coding is reviewing notes and adding a diagnosis and cpt code. If you code wrong by one digit, you can put a gyn exam on a male patient. Most places require you to be certified to code and if you down code or do illegal coding, even by mistake, you can get penalized by Medicare or even get locked up. Transcription is much easier. http://flavaofblog.blogspot.com/2007/04/30-tips-for-working-from-home-jobs.html

Transcription is easier. Coders need to be able to read medical charts and figure out all the correct billing codes for the diagnosis & procedures done. If you can't figure it out & get the highest allowable billing, the MD doesn't make any $. If you over bill you can be accused of fraud.
