What should a manager or assistant manager expect to get paid?
Asked by Jessica O
I have recently moved to New Hampshire. I have 2 years of experience as an assistant manager and 8 months of experience as a manager for a small retail store in the mall, getting paid a base plus commission in Massachusetts. I am going for a second interview later this week and I am supposed to discuss my expected pay with the district manager, however I have no idea what would be a fair rate. I have looked up salary ranges on both payscale.com (27,000-47,000) and salary.com and (25,000-47,000). Help!

I believe it depends on the industry and what type of management work you'd be doing. I would tell them that you are making or made at least 5-10k more than what you really make so that they will offer you that or higher. That way at least you are come out ahead.

Is the cost of living in NH about the same as Mass? Or let them make the first offer, or say I'll let you suggest the salary and raise system as I do not wish to price myself out of a job. Otherwise as other folk in the mall. Good Luck.
