Night nurses need only to reply: How difficult is it to manage your sleep schedule on your days off.?
Asked by ccourtneyw
Do you find yourselves sleeping at odd hours of the day on your days off, or are you able to sleep normally. I'm accustomed to 7a-7p shift, but at a new job this shift isn't available. I have worked 3p-7a before, but I know its tiring. The pace will be much different Im sure. Im just concerned on how I will function normally on my days off. I dont want to sleep all day and be up all night. Just wondering how do-able it is.

Everyone is different. I have been rotating day/night 12 hrs for the last 9 months, and it is taking it's toll on me. I can get back to a nighttime sleep schedule on my days off by as soon the very next day after working a night, but I am still tired ALL the time. I cut down to 3/4 full time, so I only work 5 days every two weeks, and only half of those are nights, but still - it sucks. Other people work nights and have no problems. I think it's easier if you're straight nights and not flip-flopping shifts.
