How do you become a registered nurse?

How much school is required to become a registered nurse? I don't have a college education, and want to know if you can become an RN after 2 or 4 years of school?

The minimum is 2 years. You can earn either a 2 year Associates Degree in Nursing, or a 4 year Bachelors Degree in Nursing.
Usually there are pre-requisites you need to take before starting the nursing program though, so it might be more like 3 years realistically.
And all schools, whether 2 year program or 4 year, are competative and difficult to get in. Not impossible, but you might not get in the first year you apply. It might take some persistence. Apply to more than one school, for sure.

Just go to college, is way easier..& its 4 years..
Or you can also get your GED..there's plenty of programs ...

My co-worker has a relative who just went for his associates (2 yrs) and started working as an RN right after that and is making okay. At my school i have friends who are doing the whole thing. You can either do 2 year and be an RN or go to a university after your 2 years... i dont know the difference between just going 2 years and 4 other than u getting more education which might get you more pay and they will more likely look at someone with a bachelors.. my opinion though.
start getting experience now, like working at a reception desk of a hospital or something.. could help you in the long run.

Most community colleges offer a nursing program. but those are generaly more competative
the colleges that offer nursing programs usually offer EMT/Paramedic programs aswell, those are 2 years. first year you get certified as emt, then 2nd is paramedic.
alot of hospitals are now hiring emt's in-place of nurse's, and geting into a emt/paramedic program is alot easier to get into, as opposed to a nursing.
also, there is no major education-requirement to join the emt program. except a background check (just like any other job, only no interview)
