A friend of mine has a Master in Art, and a Bachelors in Child Development and is a great artist. He has been trying to get a art teaching job for almost 15 years.
For his day job he is a seventh grade history teacher. And a few years ago he finally landed a gig at night teaching Art appreciation to college students.
People are tiring of our taxes continuously rising and we are rebelling, so as far as public schools it would be very hard to land an art teacher's job.
Good luck

The salary of an art teacher is depended upon whether you obtain a job in a private school or a public school. Traditionally, public schools pay more than private schools but unfortunately do to budget cuts many public schools no longer have art courses. Depending upon the private school, the art teacher's salary is less than $20,000 to start. Many schools have begun offering art teachers a part-time position. If you want to teach art, I suggest you have a second major that would allow you to work part time in art and part time in another position. Reading teachers are in demand, Foreign language teachers especially Spanish speaking are in demand.
It is very difficult to find a position with a BA. However, if you obtain your Master's in Art, you would have the opportunity to teach at a university
