As an HVAC Tech, do you see a lot of the same stuff, or is every unit a little different?

Are all AC's basically the same? Are all oils heaters basically the same? gas? Is most of refridgeration the same? Basically I'm asking do you see the same layout in units over and over or are most units different even if they're the same type?

The biggest changes I've seen are computerized sensors that malfunction very easily [on furnaces] for lean burn technology. My overall opinion is that it is; "newer junk versus older junk" just that the older junk was a lot easier to repair or replace.. and the newer junk is a lot more complicated. Does this help any?
