In most states about the highest you can go as LPN/LVN is asst DON in a Nursing Home. I aplaud your decision to start at LPN/LVN level, you will get more hands on experience with real people and usually if your employer appreciates you they will help pay for your continued education. Not every one can wait 4 years or more or even 2 years for AASNursing degree. The sooner you get some licence the sooner you can make $$$$$..
About that management position, you do have to work in the trenches and earn the right to work as some one elses boss. You can't expect a piece of paper to get you into management, you need the hands on patient care experience. I think at least two years of experience is expected before they will even consider you, and often places have a policy to hire from within their employees before looking out side for help.
Good Luck, Nursing is very rewarding but also very hard work.

I'm an LVN for 31 years & have worked in many different environments in different states. For more than $20./hr.you may have to become an RN.They are the nurses that run the home health agency's,the hospital wards, etc.RN's now can expect to make $32./hr.& more,at this time. Also, local hospitals are eliminating LVNs ,& hiring only RNs. Good luck.

RN will give you many more opportunities than LVN will. And for management, it's even better to have a BSN-RN than an ADN-RN.
