I want opinions on what you all think about these two careers, what are the advantages and disadvantages, ups and downs, schooling, average pay, what type of people do it take to do each career, what skills or characteristics are needed for each career, etc. anything that would be helpful would be appreciated. Thanks.

Wife is an RN. She loves working as one. Best in the medsurg area but right now has been working on spinal cord. It is a very tasking job, they are very short handed in the RN not only here but the US as a hole. Both jobs as long as there are people there is going to be a need for this. High stress, but can be rewarding to each person in his or her own way. Just the fact that you have saved someone or eased the pain for a short time means a great deal. When some one is unable to write because their hands are burned or they have been broken and you take down the words in a letter to send can be a very rewarding thing. You could look at the service for not only the education, the pay and travel is worth lots. You would find out if the field is what you want after a tour or your obligation is done. Many have done it, and the way I see it there is no mare danger in the service than there is on the out side even if you do go into a combat zone. Just going down the highway is bad enough now days, I seen three acidents just today no telling how many others took place. Wife was able to get $30 and hr plus housing some of the money was not taxable and all her gas and hotels I kept track of for taxes. She pulled around 42k a yr then we have my retirment on top of it. Now a lot depends on were you work also. I know at one time they said SC would only do $25 an hr no matter what. Flight nurse pulls good wages. Now the wife was doing a travel job. Great if you don't have a small family if you do this can creat some friction unless they are VERY VERY understanding. Not only will you have school but once you are into your work it is going to take up a grreat deal of your time and engery. So stress will be a huge thing, many do this all the time and manage it very well and so can you. It is all your mind set. Well the best to what ever you decide you are needed in the feild.

The field of Nurse Practitioner is opening up, and will be more in demand as time goes on.
You will probably have more opportunity to advance in that career, and the remuneration will probably be closer to that of a p[physician, as you will be dispensing prescription medication.
I would think there is a degree of specialized training, bur do not know the type, or duration.
If I had to make a choice, that is the way I would go.
