What kind of experience do you need to become a waiter in a higher-end restaurant?
Asked by fslcaptain737
There's a restaurant I'd like to become a waiter at. I'm in high school, and about to turn 18. I've had jobs before, but I've never been a waiter. While I believe I have the qualities necessary (I'm polite, articulate, am familiar with etiquette, etc) I am aware it is unlikely (if even possible) that a relatively high end restaurant would hire me. How much experience should I build before trying to 'move up', and where? Thank you, I appreciate your advice.

Why would you think that these high end restaurants would never hire you??????
Just go apply for the job, and get it...

Even though you think that you have the right qualifications to wait tables doesn't mean that you are capable to do it! I've been in the business for about 7 years. I've seen people come and go, lots of intelligent people and lots of really dumb people. Only you can determine if you can do it after trying it. I would start somewhere a little lower on the scale and work my way up. I, for some reason have a knack in this profession, I can remember orders for days and never forget a face. Ask me my phone number and I don't know.
