Is it possible to get a job just be learning a CAD program such as Solidworks?
Asked by SiteVIN.com
I know CAD programs are just a tool that designers and engineers use. But, I was thinking to learn a CAD program (probably Solidworks) and try to get a job. THEN, start going to school for drafting and engineering once I'm working in the field. What do you think? Does this sound like a plan? Would I be able to get a job in the field just by knowing how to draw on a program? If so, what would they have me doing? Thanks!!!

Probably not. I would suggest starting school first and once you gain a little more knowledge about a field try finding a job.

You are going to have a very difficult time getting a job JUST because you know the software. There is a lot more that goes into drafting and design then the use of a design program. You could probably find an internship to gain experience while you go to school, but that will probably not be a paid position (or not very much). Good luck to you.
