Asked by KittieKatten
I wanna go back to school and get a certificate in something. I would like to become an apartment manager...but i'm unclear on how to go about doing it. Most places want a manager with experience...but how do you get experience? Where do you start?

Call a real estate school in your area and ask about certification.

I'm trying to do the same thing. Your best bet is to get a job with a management company - in leasing or even as an administrative position. Get some experience, make a good impression, and make it known you are trying to move up.

I used to do that. Just one of the things I worked at for money. I am not sure how you actually get a start. I moved into this apartment block and shortly after I did the owner asked me if I would help out for a while by showing and renting apartments. I would ge my rent free for doing so. After a while it just kept going until I was actually doing all the work that a manager needs to do. Yes Even a lot of the repairs.
I had not contract and it was all by verbal agreement I did not declare any of it as income because I was doing other things that i did declare on the tax forms. For me it was a very good deal t the time. If you are not very good with people then either do it strictly as business and do not even get to know the tenets or find other work. Tenets can cause you a lot of problems and will. It can make a person very mean and uncaring.

take some basis business math and small business courses.......then apply at some property management companies....or real estate offices.....[you will find them in the yellow pages.....you might apply for assistant manager at first and grow into the manager job. to get a little experience try working part time at a motel or hotel as a desk clerk..this will give you some experience working with the public....
