I work retail management in the UK, but would love to progress in New York - Where do I start?
Asked by Jemmiekins
What shall I work up to here in the UK? Department store manager?
I'm manager of a small concession at the moment, I'm 20. I love working in it, but want to move to new york for a busier atmosphere. I've been before.
What shall I work on here before I go over there?

Dear Jemmieki,
First of all you need to find a job before you up and leave the UK. You also need to get a work permit to work in the US which trust me will take a long time in being approved. Than as you wait for your work permit to be approved go through the job postings in New York through the Internet, make sure that the salary offered is worth making the move, make sure the company that you are applying with is willing to pay for relocation coasts. Than you need to make sure you have a place to stay. There is nothing good about being in a foreign place with no job or place to stay. After all this is confirmed, take a leave of absence from your current job, go try the new job in New York, make sure it is what you want and after you have received your first pay-cheque from your new job, than officially write to your old bosses letting them know that you have decided to explore new horizon's and that in the future if you decide to return to the UK if things don't work out can you turn to them for a job if you need it. I hope this helps you in deciding what you need to do, and keep me posted.
