Is great customer service a thing of the past?
Asked by
I went to 12 stores yesterday and only 1 sales person asked if I needed any help. What happened to smiling faces and how may I help you name tags? They are snotty, rude and I won't go in their stores anymore. I have called each individual store just to give feedback, and it's like the manager doesn't give a rip either. I do also understand that the wages are poor, but this is what they signed up for. Get out if you don't like it.

I nomrally try to greet everybody with a smile and if they look like they're struggling with something, I ask if I can help them. But if they don't look like it, and even if they do, I am not a mind reader and that's why people need to ask us for help too, there's nothing wrong in dropping pride a bit do ask for help... But I also feel like manners and compassion have gone out the door too. I feel like alot of people don't even acknowledge us as human beings, and are always gettting snobby when I can't do something they want me to do either. I noticed that in restaurants too.. Like this one woman knocked over and tore up our candy bar display because she was too lazy to go around it(she shouldn't have been back there either) and stoppe picking HER mess up, said "I'll leave these to you, give you somehting to do anyway..." I was THINKING"kicking your butt out of this store gives me something better to do as well.." But I was training someone, getting freight out, cleaning, doing managorial duties, ect... Like I needed something else to do because some woman made a mistake and wanted herself to feel better? But I know what you mean though. I go to WM sometimes and the associates don't even acknowledge me or even say hi or smile.... they just look like zombies, but i know they have good reasons to have low morales. I used to work with them before my current retail job... But nobody should take it out on customers or co-workers though. I try to be nice as well, but maybe they're just having a bad day or struggeling on their 6.40 an hour wage(what it is at a WM in my area) Goodluck and Sorry for my novel!! plus I believe alot of snobby people who go in expecting miracles have NEVER worked in customer service either. or retail or restaurants...I guess that's why it's so easy to not be understanding at times... and in my area, poor wages are what's surrounding us, I'm LUCKY to be making over 7.00 an hour, but I'm relatively happy with my job though
assistant manager at a small retail store Oh, and for anybody blaming the younger generation.. take into account that it was the older generations that taught them, or Didn't teach them right..

Now I know that I'm not the only one who feels this way. I was wondering what was going on. Store clerks nowadays are getting away with murder.

Because everyone in the younger generation has never appreciated anything. They also believe that for standing around, running their mouths to their friends, and doing absolutely nothing, that they should be making thousands of dollars per week..... In-grateful, insensitive, uninspired, and totally uninterested in anyone except themselves...

Don't blame the store, blame the parents, curiosity is taught at home..

Customer service is still the winning edge for service organizations, without satisfactory customer service organizations will lose customers. I hope managers who are in the service sector pay more attention to that aspect. Delighted customers are good advertisements (thru words-of-mouth) for organizations which pay attention to customer service.
