Cooking is one of the few things I do well (philosophy degree). Ping pong is the other. So cooking it is.

Have you tried the job search sites? There's monster.com and milwaukeejobs.com. I don't personally know of any restaurants that are hiring, downtown or otherwise, but I think those sites would be a good place to start. Failing that you could always try pulling out the yellow pages and contacting them directly, but that's a lot of work.

try Cracker Barrell it would be at the exits near the interstate.. or Waffle house.. IHOP... Steak houses... good luck
