I am a System Administrator and as the first person says I have access to programs and change their default passwords and such. I don't do set up because the system was built by someone else, I just run it. You might have to deal with set up as an administrator, you might not. I do system developments and alterations and am responsible for the data integrity of the system (data integrity is a good industry buzz word to use if you're going for an interview!) I enjoy my job because I work with really really nice people. The work itself is kind of repetitive and not what I'd call exciting by any means so you have to make sure that you'll be working in a good environment just like any other job. You also need to have good working relationships with the IT people in the company if you're a System Administrator and sometime with HR too.
Hope that helps!
