question about New Hire Orientation at a bookstore (Deseret Book) - proper attire, etc.?
Asked by unique1307
I was just hired at Deseret Book and new hire orientation is tomorrow. When I went in to fill out the paperwork today I asked them what I should wear for tomorrow and they told me that jeans are ok - but I don't want to be underdressed, etc. What type of clothing should I wear? Also - orientation starts at 6am, but the store doesn't open until 10am - what kinds of things do you think it covers? They're having us meet at a different location than the store. THANKS!

If you've ever shopped there, you know that business casual is what they usually wear - so I'd go with slacks and nice shirt or blouse, maybe a jacket or sweater (depending on the weather) . Your training may consist of orientation on their rather sophisticated "cash register" system, which uses membership numbers (found by phone number) and points, etc. They may also give you the standard greetings, talk about their idea of customer service, breaks, and schedules.
You may also be asked to fill out paperwork - if you haven't already. I'd take a pen & paper, and be prepared with questions you may have before you start.
