I always looked for a good standard of spoken and written English. Attention to detail is important and so is flexibility. By that I mean the ability to stop what you are doing and switch to a different task if required to do so. Hope that helps.

As you have the qualifications, then it's all down to attitude. Show that you can stay calm in tricky situations by coming over confident in your interview, but make sure it's not cockey. The ability to deal with situations calmly and correctly. Include every bit of experience on your CV at your stage, as you have no experience then they can only go by this. As your experience increases, then be more picky with the information.

Definately list all computer skills and cert's, and having led a team or having been in a position of responsibility in the past always helps.

LOTs of experience. Perfect timekeeping (turning up an hour before your supposed to and finishing an hour after your supposed to, and no lunchbreak - in a previous job I was paid to do 9 to 5 with an hour for lunch, in real terms I had to turn up at 7.30 am, have 5 minutes for lunch and leave at 6.30 pm) and no sickness. EXPERT in the use of Word, Excel, Access AND Powerpoint. I left college at 18 after 2 years Secretarial Training, and all the employers wanted at least 20 years experience AND a Teanager - seriously, so they could pay less money. On a CV you MUST list EVERY qualification you have completed - no matter how bad the result.

I would always recommend to call the company and speak to the human resources department to introduce yourself and let them know you are sending in your CV. This will show that you are a "can do" person and will probably make you stand out against all the other applicants. The important thing is to get an interview. Usually, what an employer will look for is someone who has similar experience to the job they are looking to fill. If you know the nature of the company you are applying to, try to draw similarities on your CV between their role and one you filled before. I would definitely put in all the extra experience you have and also point out that if they have in-house systems or specific programs they use, that you are a fast learner and are willing to take a course if necessary. I hope this helps

2 things. Everything else - your degree, certifications, whatever, that just gets you in the door for the interview. When you go in, they are looking for two things. Experience, and personality. When they look at you, you want them to think, "This person will fit in perfectly here. I like their attitude." Pay attention to your interviewer, and play to his/her personality. You want to be their friend, and at the same time be able to deliver proof that you are experienced in this job and you will do well in their company. Good luck!

Im 21 and I'm having a midlife crisis here!
