Can a former store manager get a part-time job?
Asked by Carol
I was a store manager and now I just want a part-time job that 15 year-olds can get. I've put my resume out and no place has called me back. My friends are saying it's because the places I've applied to think I'm over-qualified.
If that's the case then where can I get a part-time job, 3 days a week max, any pay, with my qualifications? Should I just leave the manager job out of my resume? Help!

Yeh, I hear where your coming from. They see you as over-qualified and expecting a higher pay wage than those 15 year olds out there. I wouldn't hire you either, no offense. In my business, all I need is a "body." And sadly, it's like that in any company it seems these days. Good luck.

No.. keep it in.. but what you are facing is the concern that you will leave as soon as something better comes along (which may be the case) and this is the fear you need to allay. Would suggest that you be a bit aggressive in your approach by asking to have a face to face with the person in charge of hiring and tell them how you can be an asset to the job and that you are looking for a long term employment with them and why.

well, to avoid lying you would have to leave it in there but applying for a job you look over qualified and may want to "alter" the store because of what you came from... That is my biggest fear.. When applying for hotel jobs no one would call me back being an AGM to start back at the front desk.. Some companies wanted me to go to that position but doing what I do now how would I take it.. not very well knowing what I used to do.. So I opted for a better job.. I think that you need to reword it without lying on your application or resume...
Good luck
