I have driven reach forks for years. The most popular I have seen, and the brand they will probably have you on is a Raymond. In my opinion they are the most friendly to operate. It takes some practice, but they are not as hard to drive as they may seem. They are more agile and more maneuverable than a sit down forklift. A few tips: get used to using the brake. You have to lift your foot off the brake to operate it. And be sure the outriggers straddle the pallet before you let the forks all the way down. Practice driving backwards. It helps when the load is obscuring your forward view. And be sure when you are plugging the battery into the charging station, you are plugging in the battery not the forklift...I've seen it done allot. Good Luck.

1 to 2 days is all you need. its not like you are going to be flying a 747. if you stay awake in the training the test will be easy-peasy-japaneesy

My husband drove forklift for 25 years and about two years ago took a certification course through a Truck Driving School here in London Ontario. The course took two weekends of class time. Manual was provided. The third weekend consisted of a written test on material covered in the class and a test on the actual equipment. He recieved his certificate which is good for three years. He is due for his recertification again next year. I am not sure what the qualifications are for the States.
