Tips for an Executive Assistant to communicate with a Manager who works remotely?
Asked by Ashlee E
Hi All,
My boss is not always in the same office that I work in and I am having some challenges communicating effectively with him. Can anyone share some tips on how our relationship could be more effective? Thanks!

~I have no clue. I've had the same problem for years with my boss. So, I don't bother trying to communicate any longer. I just light up my crack pipe and nod off.

Email; instant messangers; and the old stand by, phone. Email him the facts and reports. Call him to let him know where you are and what your doing, and instant messenger or call on questions and offer a solution before he answers. This works for me and my team when I am out of the office.

The same with my boss. He is mostly out of the office but he is on his blackberry and checks emails constantly. Talk with him and see which one he prefers. My boss does not want phone call UNLESS it is extremely necessary.

Keep a running list of things you need to discuss, and set aside some time to have a long phone call. Don't just jump in with a quick question if he calls in for something else. Have a scheduled time for a telephone meeting where you can both go through your lists for each other.

For starters, I would tell him (call him) that you would like to talk with him about you how you guys can work better together to achieve great company goals.
Always have an easy way to contact him should you need him stat, email, cell, etc.
