Job Search Keywords?
Asked by Hanasays
I just moved this question - accidentally posted in the wrong category. I'm a recent graduate currently looking for a job in an art/illustration,design, or animation-related field anywhere in North America or English-speaking Europe. The problem is that when I use online job-search engines such as monster.com or careerbuilder.com (which are not my only methods of looking for a job, but should also not be ignored), most of the job search results that they produce are completely unrelated to any field I am interested in. One of the more recent, amusing examples is an art/design/animation related keyword search coughing up a job listing for a janitorial position. How can I retool my job-search keywords and specifications in order to filter out irrelevant job postings and find the listings for the sorts of jobs I am actually looking for? I could try to be more specific, but the problem with getting TOO specific is that I narrow my search so much that I get no job search results at all.

I've never had much luck searching for art/design related jobs on Monster or CareerBuilder either... I always get those "marketing" jobs which are actually tele-marketers... much different. My recommendation is to search career specific websites for job listings. Try AIGA, Aquent, CreativeHotlist, HOW... these sites are focused on creative occupations. Also, go directly to the company websites you're interested in working for. If you want to design for Gap, look at Gap's career page.... etc etc. Good luck! If you have international flexibility, you're options are amazing.
I'm a professional graphic designer. See these creative job sites: http://www.aigadesignjobs.org http://aquent.com http://howdesign.com/jobs http://www.creativehotlist.com
