Electrician and Higher knowledge?
Asked by khaleel19
I am graduating this year, and I am going to get my apprenticeship as a electrician. Although after I am done getting my apprenticeship, I would like to go to university, to obtain a higher degree in this field. so my questions are:
1. what exactly is a journeyman electrician and a master electrician, and in general what is needed to obtain this.
2. What university courses are available in this field.
3. To narrow things down..I would like to make electrical blueprints and inspect them as well.what is this job called?
Thanks very much.

I hope you get answers from professionals. As far as I know, you advance from apprentice to journeyman to master on the job. there may be courses that you take on the way to learn about new developments, but I think it is mostly time on the job.
As you get proficient in your work you could take some drafting courses to learn how to make wiring diagrams.
As you are interested in education, you could consider a university program that leads to a degree in electrical engineering. You would be leaving the trades and entering a profession. The pay is much better and so is the work. On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with the trades. Work hard, do well, and you will advance as far as your abilities take you.
