How do you deal with a manager who is incompetent, a bully, and biased and they have the support of upper mgt?
Asked by Cola
I am currently working as an office assistant, which means I am the lowest person on the totem pole. But, I have more experience and education than my manager. Because it is a small organization, the office politics are strong and a lot of inappropriate work behavior is allowed. I am afraid to take further steps to complain for fear of retaliation. What do I do besides quit my job? By the way, I don't intend to stay in this capacity much longer, but I need it until I finish school.

Then you suck up your guts and do what he asks, as you are really short time

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do. If the manager is truly incompetent, it won't take long to show. I guess staying out of his/her way is best. Are jobs that scarce?

there are two ways to go about it, you can invest in a small tape recorder and tape everything then when you are about one week from quitting or just get fed up walk into the head person in charge and let them know that you are going to sue them make sure you make a copy of the tape. second consult with an attorney, just spend a couple of bucks for a consultation. the tape recorder works best. no boss will want to risk either their job or company for a jerk or jerks, especially if they are also involved.

I would still suggest that you quit your job. Not immediately, but it is easier to find a job when you are currently employed. I understand how you feel, but all managers should still respect their employees. Management does not have any right to demean and/or disrespect their employees. Good luck

No matter what you do, you are still his/her subordinate. You should be polite in the company. Sometimes people like you are assuming you know everything, if you cannot share it with your manager, your talent, then go ahead...find a job where you can find competent managers. There is a process in the company, whether it is big or small one. Forget about politics, all company, if I am not mistaken are encountering this problem. Considering that you are in the lowest post, just do your job and don't be conclusive with other people. If that behavior will remain, I think you will never be happy in any kind of job that you will be facing. You need to prove something first before you can say that you are totally competent one. In fact you need to finish your school, what more if you become degree holder. Maybe you will say also that the owner of the company is not competent . Come on, don;t behave like that, I think you're becoming company politician. Don't you?

You aren't going to change things there. You answered your own question.....you need the job, wait until graduation, keep quiet, then quit. Trust me, asshole bosses are everywhere!
