do you think im underpaid?

Im a computer tech in the new england area. I fix laptops, desktop computers and impact printers, primarily laptops. I am in college, im 21, i work 20 hours a week and i make $9.50, ive worked there for almost four years. i work more on winter and summer break from school, like 30 hours. should i be making more, if so how much. they have a $90 an hour rate for repair, not including parts, unless its under warranty then we dont get the $90 i started at $8 i love this job and the environment, i have no intention of leaving, but i havent been given a raise in almost 2 years, and im the second best laptop tech out of four total

I would say cuz you've been there for almost 4 years, you probably should be getting a little more. I'd probably guess at least $11/hr. Good luck!

As a part-time tech that seems fair, but having been there 4 years, it seems a bit week.
I would think you should make a bit more, but as a tech, you will pretty much cap out.

yah my mom works at a preschool and has been there for about that long and makes like 10 bucks an hour

12 dollars an hour to fix computers is the lowest I would take to start. Unless you are learning while you are there, they are just taking advantage of you.

Here's a question: what is the company's hourly rate for service? If they're charging $60/hour but you're only getting $9.50 then you probably have room to ask for a raise.

Follow the steps to see if you are being paid what you are worth for your job grade in the area where you are employed.
If you feel you are under paid, time to shop for another job in the same filed with another company in the same area where you can work 40 hours per week with for more money and full benefits.

If you work for a company, ask them what the salary RANGE is for your position. If you are not already at the top of the range, ask them what you have to do to get a raise.
$9.50 isn't bad but you can work for Costco where the minimum starting pay is $18.

The going shop rate should give you a clue. If it is more than $50/hr, then you are underpaid. If it is at >$75/hour, you should be making $20/hr...

it depends on what wage you started with when you started with the company...then you can calculate the percentage increase year after year. But realistically, in this day in age, $9.50 is very low, especially if you have tenure with the company.

find out how much your employer charges for your services,then factor your time into the overall costs of the business and calculate the % of your contribution to the profitability.
If the business healthy and growing you should be making more if not then start thinking about some other employment situation in the long term and move accordingly.
Should you decide to part company make sure that you have a good job lined up and be prepared to make the change when you ask for a raise. If the boss makes a counter offer consider remaining at that place if other conditions are favorable (do you like it there).
If you are studying computer science and intend to become a computer engineer don't worry about ethics/integrity/reputation since that profession pays little attention to such matters only the profitability and how much the individual can get out of the system.

Yes, if you are a good tech, you should be making more. Speak to your supervisor, and suggest to your employer that he implement a salary review program and performance evaluation to be made twice yearly. If he doesn't agree, start looking for another place to work.
