Jennie K
What are the pros and cons of being a retail store manager?

What is your job and what parts of it do you like and not like?

I'm a retail clothing/dept store manager and love it. I'm with a company that doesn't follow planograms so I'm generally able to be as creative as I want with clothing and giftware displays. I usually love dealing with people, both co-workers and customers (though mean people suck, lol). I love a busy sales night. I love the flexibility I have in scheduling (if I need a weekday off, I can take it, if I need a weekend off, I can take it). I'm only required to close 1 night per week and work 2 weekends per month. My hours are reasonable, even this time of year. I did work for another retailer prior to this job however, where they treated managers (SMs and ASMs) like complete cr*p. So I simply moved on. I love the fact that even though I work for a corporation, its MY store and they treat me with that respect. I personally am so glad I switched careers from corporate marketing to retail management. Even the pay isn't bad.

Pros==the title, the resume builder, better pay than the team members. Cons==working nights, weekends and holidays; dealing with customers, dealing with upper management; insubordinate workers.
