Any one ever take a Phlebotomy course? Did it entail a lot of studying or text reading?
Asked by Well la-di-da
I'm taking a Phlebotomy course next semester, as well as my next load of A&P. I'm wondering if a Phleb class is usually just hands on practice, or if there is still a lot of reading to go over?

Mostly a little bit of anatomy and physiology. Not a lot of study involved as it's more a hands on skill than a mind skill... Most of the time will be spent doing clinical practice. This is usually done on each other with your class mates.
I'm a phlebotomy and IV therapy instructor.

When I went to school for a Medical Assistant I also got certified in that area---- It was more hands on where I went to school. There was light reading in the general area of what white/red blood cells are made of and what they do-- slight reading on what "vile" to put them in. but the most of it is hands on blood drawing! (for my school that is)

My wife worked as a phlebotomist for several years. She took a few hours of training (which included sticking her classmates) and then she went right onto patients.
